Wedged between two storefronts sat a third sandstone building with a glossy dark chocolate roof.  Unlike the adjacent structures the building showed almost no signs of life, sitting empty and cold like it hadn't been used for ages.  Today would mark a change.  With a click the sound of heavy tumblers turned the lock opened for the first time in ages, revealing the silhouette of Erika Winthrop.

       "It's time to clean up!"

The busty brunette entered the building with a wide smile, her footprints marked in the dust of the checkerboard floor as she took in everything that was now hers. From the lime green and clay orange furniture in the dining area to the barren glass cases right up front, Erika couldn't help but grin with excitement as her friend Millie joined her inside.

"Eeesh, no wonder you were able to get such a low price for this place." Millie remarked, audibly less entranced by the inside of the shop as she planted her hands on her shapely chocolate hips.  She had agreed to help in the clean up, but she hadn't expected such disuse.  Her cocoa haired counterpart simply marched to the fuse box in back and flipped on the lights, fluorescent humming now background noise for their chatter.

"Laugh all you want," Erika chastised, "but a shop on Meyer Valley's main street is prime real estate!" Her grin twisted to a smirk as she spied her broom and mop, grabbing one in each hand before making her way back towards Millie.  "Besides, it was YOU who pushed me to actually pursue the dream of starting my own business.  Blame yourself!"

Millie did laugh, a jovial one with no malice behind it at the sight of her bespectacled friend's infectious enthusiasm.  "Well shush up and clean up then!  I'm not doing all the work for you!"  Millie took the broom and got to sweeping while Erika began running hot water for the cleaning ahead of them, both knowing their clean up was not just a single days work.

Over the next few days the girls put themselves completely in to the storefront's revival: Ovens were tested, lights and plumbing followed suit, supplies were purchased and the sign (well, banner anyway) was properly set upon the roof.  But on Monday of the very next week...

"And... open!"  Erika flipped the little sign on the door:  She was ready.  Her own business... Glazed and Confused, a simple donut and pastry shop right there in Meyer Valley.  Of course Millie was right there beside her to witness this grand opening, not as a full on employee but simply a supportive friend.  "Just watch the front, Millie... I have to bake up some donuts!" She moved with a prideful swagger to the kitchen, leaving her confederate perched on the stool at the cash register.

Millie didn't have to rest on her curvaceous bottom for very long though, because before she even had time to get comfortable her ears perked up at the front bell - someone had entered the shop already… someones in fact!

The customers were two men, about Millie or Erika's own age.  One was tall, thin, roughly Millie's height, while the other was noticeably shorter and thicker all around.  The shorter had a bit of stubble around his chin, but he gave a grin.  "See, I told you this place was being renovated a few days ago!  Now we don't have to drive nearly as far to get the old man his food!"

His taller companion only nodded in reply, which was almost cute enough to Millie to give her a giggle fit (something about shy boys she always found adorable).  Instead she managed to stop her giggle at a grin, beaming at the first arrivals.  "Good morning and welcome to Glazed and Confused!  Sorry the donuts aren't ready yet, we just opened and wanted to make sure they were very fresh!"

It was a bit of a customer service fib:  They'd overslept, and while intending to arrive at 5, they really had come in closer to 9.  But hey, no need for the customers to hear that.

"You serve coffee too, right?  We just need a dozen donuts half of them glazed, and three coffees.  Two black."  The shorter one jumped back in with zeal, nearly cut his friend off.  "And plenty of creamer for the last one!"  He almost chuckled at his own words, like everything was amusing to him.

Millie just nodded.  "Of course!  Of course!  Just wait one moment boys, and we'll have the finest breakfast you and your 'old man' will ever have!"  She pushed it hard.  Word of mouth was good for any business, and if she could sell up to these two, well, two today might turn into twenty tomorrow.  She tallied up the items and gave change, and got a name even though there were no other orders to worry about.  Better to get into good habits, she figured.  Not an instant later she shot up from her seat, her healthy bust bouncing to rest before the eyes of the boys.  The taller one almost flinched she moved so fast while the stout one’s eyes widened with his own surprise with her height stretched out before them.  Millie didn’t give the pair long to gawk though, vanishing into the back of the kitchen for their donuts... where the smell of fried dough hit her nostrils before the door even swung fully open.

"Customers?" Erika said, turning her head with a smile as she looked up from her donuts, glaze hardening as still more sizzled away in the fryer.

"Just a dozen donuts and some coffee; easy stuff..." Millie replied, licking her lips at the sight of the cooling confections.  "... dang Sara Lee, you don’t mess around!"

"Hey, you know I’m in the zone when I’m in the kitchen."  Erika might have overslept that morning, but she was on the ball now.  The first wave of treats were almost ready to box and the second wave was nearly out of the fryer.  She was happy… giddy almost; her luck in Meyer Valley was already turning out so good!  "Let ‘em know they’ll be right out in just a minute, okay?"

Millie nodded as she returned to the wood paneled serving area where their two customers waited casually lounging upon the touched up plastic furniture, prepping the hot java they’d ordered.  "Nelson?  Your order's almost ready."  She teased, even though the shop was empty.

And indeed moments later Erika came out from the kitchen with a pink box in hand, placing it on the top of the empty mirrored case where more donuts would soon go. And a lot of donuts if the case was any indication: It was tall enough that only Erika's shoulders and head were visible when she stood behind it, smiling sweetly at the two as she pushed her goods forward.  "Since you're our first customers, I threw in a few extra, as a special bonus! Be sure to tell your friends about us!"

The shorter one, Nelson, got up from his seat and smirked.  "Hey, thanks babe." he said, putting on a bit of an obvious "cool" voice.  His taller friend saw the baker of this morning, and he blushed a bit.  He hadn't expected a girl that pretty to be working in a donut shop. He just smiled awkwardly.  "Yeah... uh, have a good day." he said, the red from his cheeks fading as he grabbed the coffee cup holder and left with his friend.

With the ringing of the bell chime they were gone, Erika squealing with delight at her first sale.  "We did it! We're a business!"  Even Millie's grin was wide as her "boss" gripped her soft waist for a tight hug, yet she couldn't even open her mouth before Erika pulled back from the squeeze.

"Oh my, I have to make SO many more donuts if I'm going to fill this case!  I better get back to the oven!"   And like that the busty baker was rushing to the back once more before she could open her mouth. For right now she decided to save her praise for later, just smile sweetly and pour herself a cup of coffee.

And as she reached into the case for her first (and guaranteed not to be the last) of her friend's discount donuts, Millie heard her friend sing out from the kitchen,

"Watch out, Meyer Valley!  Erika Winthrop is here!"
It's here!  It's here!  It's finally here!

So, at long last, I can present to you something that's been worked on for a while.  The very first story to feature the setting of Meyer Valley!

What's Meyer Valley, you ask?  It's the town Erika lives and works.  Done with college life, she's taken a big leap and started  her own business!  More than anything, I wanted Erika to finally get out of her house more compared to the older works.  Not that plenty of stories won't take place at home, mind, but this one will have OTHER locations!  This one, for instance, is about her little shop she opened: Glazed & Confused.
